Welcome to the Foundation Agronomos Sin Fronteras.
This Non-Govermental Organization was born close to Iringa, in central Tanzania, in 2004.
Since then, we are working to create in a nearby land donated by Caritas a farm and a school for modern agriculture techniques intended for local people.
This first project, called Ihanzutwa, is designed to be self-supportive and to fund itself with the benefits of its own crops.
|
But for the time being it survives thanks to the initial contributions of the founders as well as donations from private individuals, companies and organizations.
If you wish to collaborate with us, either through a donation, volunteering work or commercial relationships, you are most welcome to contact us and participate.
In this site you will find detailed information about who we are, how and where we work, and why we do it.

A dormitory for girls in Sadani Secondary School – February 2008
Foundation works for a girls' dormitory in the Secondary School has begun in Sadani. This dormitory has been a particular request from the District Governor in order to end the lack of accommodation that put female students in a situation of disadvantage. It will allow to accommodate a hundred students in very good conditions and under supervision from the academic centre. Manos Unidas is funding this project.
A representative from the Ministry of Education of Tanzania has recently come from Dar es Salaam to visit three secondary schools in the Iringa region, one of which was the one in Sadani. The purpose of the visit is the planning to upgrade the school from Secondary to High, by deploying the 5th and 6th level courses in it. Thanks to the help of the new dormitory, it is almost sure that the objective will be achieved during this year.

Purchase of natural and chemical fertilizers to complete this year's crop – January 2008
Fertilizers have been purchased for those demanding it within the local population, with the strict aim of improving agricultural techniques. Individual farmers are completely unable to buy fertilizers by themselves, due to the long distances to the purchasing points, the lack of readily available transportation and, in general, the increasing of up to 15% in the price of the fertilizer due to these difficulties.

Scarce availability of grain – January 2008
Lack of grain in the Tanzanian market has forced ASF to buy three truck loads of maize to supply the continuous demand from the village. The delay in the rain season has stopped the harvest and some families are in a dire situation to obtain food. The situation in Ihanzutwa is critical, and it seems to be the norm in many other areas in the country.
The critical food situation that most of the population of Ihanzutwa is living is clearly represented by the fact that 12 tons of maize bought in December 2007 were already finished by February 7 2008. In spite of the extremely abusive prices demand for maize is still massive. Vegetables, however, are readily available during this time of the year, and many families survive strictly on this, leaving the scarce maize for children.

| Tanzania |
In the last decade Tanzania has undergone a progressive process of political and economical openess which has translated
in, among other aspects, the more intensive explotation of its turistic resources, the privatisation of national enterprises, and
the welcoming of foreign investment in terms of market economy. Check the
current situation of the agriculture in Tanzania or browse through some
useful data on the country. |
